This is a continuation of my reading of Victor Herman’s book, Coming Out Of The Ice, An Unexpected Life, out of print for some time. Just a reminder of why I am doing this. I consider this book to be extremely important, because it is a glimpse into what we can expect if we do not resist the oncoming tyranny. Victor Herman, in discussing his experiences in the Soviet gulag emphasized: “Don’t think it can’t happen here.” And, it is now happening here.
The series begins here.
This chapter begins in 1942 and concludes in 1943. For context, America and Japan had entered the Second World War in December of 1941, although the Japanese had already been fighting for years in China and elsewhere. Hitler’s Operation Barbarossa had bogged down in the Russian winter in late 1941, and as a result, Germany had already lost the war.
The battle of Stalingrad took place during the time of this chapter, in which Germany was beaten badly, sealing its fate. America had entered the war on the side of Britain and the Soviet Union. But even with American help, conditions were extremely dire for the Russians.
Victor further expands his dietary choices, giving literal meaning to the title of Part 3.
The reading is here. As always, I hope you appreciate Victor’s words.
