Coming Out Of The Ice - Chapter Thirty-Eight Part B
Part 3 - Stalking Rat In The Jungles Of The North
This is a continuation of my reading of Victor Herman’s book, Coming Out Of The Ice, An Unexpected Life, out of print for some time. Just a reminder of why I am doing this. I consider this book to be extremely important, because it is a glimpse into what we can expect if we do not resist the oncoming tyranny. Victor Herman, in discussing his experiences in the Soviet gulag emphasized: “Don’t think it can’t happen here.” And, it is now happening here.
The series begins here.
Persistence. Perseverance. Creativity. And a little luck.
Luck?
In the context of this story, what qualifies as luck? Is it lucky to suffer unimaginable abuse just to stay alive another day? I suppose that perhaps it is common for one to look back in hindsight and have the negatives muted in memory, the sharp points of suffering blunted by time. And so, perhaps survival is worth the pain, and that just survival itself can be called success.
This is Victor’s drawing of the task he describes in this chapter - a task designed to kill him. And yet he lived.
You will learn how he succeeded. And you will learn in chapter thirty-nine how he was punished for that success - a punishment designed to kill him. And yet he lived.
The reading is here. As always, I hope you appreciate Victor’s words.
